One of the biggest attractions of Fort Riley Fall Apple Day is Libby Custer's famous apple pies, made from her secret recipe. These delicious pies are renowned among residents of Fort Riley and the surrounding communities.
The recipe comes from the kitchen of one of Fort Riley's most notable residents, Libby Custer, wife of General George Custer, who lived at Fort Riley from November 1866 through the spring of 1867. The pie features a single crust with a signature crumb topping that has become a favorite tradition for generations.
Every Pie Makes a Difference
The proceeds from pie sales provide tremendous support to the Friends of the Fort Riley Museums. Funds raised help preserve and maintain the history of Fort Riley while also providing a scholarship through the Combined Scholarship Fund of Fort Riley.
Pre-Order Your Pie
The famous apple pies will be available by pre-sale only for a limited time. Place your order and pick up your pies on:
- Friday, September 18 – Manhattan and Junction City
- Friday, September 25 – Fort Riley Marshall Airfiled DFAC Kiosk
Please note: Whole pies will not be available for purchase during the Fort Riley Fall Apple Day Festival.
